Kendadih Copper Mine of Hindustan Copper at Ghatsila in Jharkhand, which was lying closed since 2000 due to economic reasons, has been re-opened upon commencement of development activities at the mine, the company said today.
The mine (after completion of mine development activities) is expected to produce 2.25 lakhs MT of copper ore annually, HCL said in a stock exchange filing.
The mine was closed in February, 2000.
"Since then, considering the favourable market conditions, the company has reworked the mine business plan," it said.
After obtaining all the statutory clearances like environment and forest clearances, including execution of mining lease deed from central and state governments it "has re-opened the mine on November 11, 2017", the filing said.
The company's shares closed 2.14 per cent down at Rs 89.15 apiece on BSE.
