The 38-year-old Sivakumar, attached to Kadathur police station in Erode District, was on night patrol last night.
He was going on his official motorcycle wearing helmet when a lorry dashed against his vehicle and ran over him.
He died on the spot, police said, adding, they are searching for the lorry driver.
