Head Constable Faiz Muhammad was allegedly shot dead by Vijendra when the constable along with SHO was going to carry out a search in a matter relating to some theft in the area, Additional Superintendent of Police Ram Kumar said.
Upon seeing a suspicious vehicle near Bhavanta village, police followed it and Vijendra who was behind the wheels, allegedly fired shots at the constable, Kumar said.
Muhammed was immediately taken to a hospital in Kuchman where doctors declared him brought dead, the ASP said.
Police has barricaded the area and a search is on for the absconding accused.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has declared a compensation of Rs 22 lakh to the deceased's family and a house.
