The headmaster of a school at Kulti in Burdwan district was today beaten up by guardians who alleged that the school authorities were taking bribes for admission of new students, the police said.
The admission of students to class-V in Mithani High School at Kulti was to take place at around 11 am. When the admission process did not start even after 1.30 pm, the guardians alleged that the school authorities were taking bribes for admission, the police said.
Some angry women entered the room of the headmaster and allegedly beat him up with shoes, they said.
The headmaster lodged a complaint with the police in this regard, they said, adding that the admission process in the school stopped after the incident.
Meanwhile, state Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said that administration will take strong action against the accused.
"None of those who have been involved in the beating up of the headmaster would be spared. Administration will take strong action against them. No word is strong enough to condemn this kind of attack on the headmaster," he said tonight.
