Since 2004, US had contributed 260 million dollars to support India's implementation of its large scale multifaceted HIV/AIDS project, with Tamil Nadu being a leader in the area, Consul General of the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai, Jennifer Mcintyre said here.
Through establishment of a Global Disease Detection Centre in India, the US and Indian experts were working together in area of disease surveillance and epidemiology among others, she said.
In her address to the 42nd biennial conference of Christian Medical Association of India, she also noted that there was a need for quality universal medical care to facilitate interactive engagement of medical professionals with government, private and public sectors.
Tamil Nadu Governor Dr K Rosaiah, who was also present, said the state and central governments' prime agenda was to provide good healthcare to the rural and urban population.
Voluntary and religious organisations and charitable trusts should extend a helping hand to take the health care to the unreached, Rosaiah said.
