Health official seriously injured in mob attack

A district health official was today seriously injured after being thrashed by the relatives of a patient following the patient's death at a primary health centre in Malda district today.
A police officer said Gouranga Biswas, the Block Medical Officer of Health of Englishbazar, was beaten up following the death of an elderly patient admitted to Milky health centre under the block, earlier in the day.
Biswas was taken to Malda Medical College and his condition was reportedly stable, hospital sources said.
West Bengal minister and local MLA Krishnendu Choudhury and the district Chief Medical Officer of Health went to visit the injured health officer.

Five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, the police officer said.
