The BJP Government has failed to realise the seriousness of the Centre's flagship health programme and its impact on the rural masses, Chhattisgarh Congress President Nandkumar Patel said here.
Under NRHM, 75 per cent of the fund for health-related projects is provided by the Centre, while the rest is contributed by the state concerned. The mission aims at improving healthcare delivery to people in rural areas.
The ambitious scheme has lost its way in tribal-dominated Chhattisgarh, where the poor are not able to take its full benefit due to corrupt functioning of the State Health Department, the Congress leader alleged.
Under the Raman Singh Government, NRHM has become a medium of "loot", Patel maintained.
Another scheme, Rashtriya Swastya Bima Yojana (RSBY), too is mired in irregularities and it is only making the corrupt doctors rich, he claimed.
The objective of RSBY is to protect BPL households from major health shocks that involve hospitalisation.

Several cases have come into light in Chhattisgarh, where RSBY card-holding patients have been operated upon for diseases, which can be tackled through easily available medicines, Patel said.
Also, several instances have been reported where doctors have conducted unnecessary uterus-removal surgeries on young women to claim money under the scheme, he claimed.
The health schemes have become a victim of malpractice due to connivance between doctors, insurance companies and Government departments concerned, Patel alleged.
