Blistering heat swept Hisar and Rohtak in Haryana, with maximums settling at 43 deg C each, the MeT Department said. Both the maximums settled two notches above normal.
Narnaul (42.7 C), Karnal (41 C), Ambala (40.2 C) and Bhiwani (42.6 C) also experienced a hot day registering above normal maximums.
In Punjab, Amritsar was the hottest place at 41.8 deg C, up three degrees than normal.
Ludhiana recorded a high of 40.3 deg C while the maximum at Patiala settled at 40.9 deg C.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states, has also witnessed rise in maximum temperatures during the past 2-3 days.
Today, the maximum here settled at 40.1 deg C, up two notches.
The MeT forecast that maximum temperatures in the region may soar over the next few days.
However tomorrow, dust storm/thunderstorm with light rain has been forecast at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana.
