Heat continues to trouble Odisha, rains soothe temp in parts

Blistering heat swept across Odisha where the heatwave is set to intensify in the coming days, even as light rains in parts of north India kept temperatures near normal.
1.7 mm of overnight showers in parts of the national capital brought down the mercury to the normal levels. The maximum temperature was recorded at 38.2 degrees Celsius while the minimum settled at 23.
Light to moderate rains also continued at isolated places in Rajathan where the day temperature hovered below 41 degrees Celsius. Rawatsar in Hanumangarh district, and Tonk received 2 and 1 cm overnight rains respectively while Pilani recorded traces of rains till this evening.
Thunderstorm and hailstorm are likely to occur at isolated places during the next 24 hours in the state where Churu was hottest at a maximum of 40.6 degrees Celsius.
In Odisha, Titlagarh was the hottest place at 44.5 degrees Celsius. The state has already seen three sun-stroke deaths this summer. The casualties have been reported from Bargarh, Angul and Balangir districts, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said.
The mercury in the eastern state breached the 43-degree mark in seven towns and 40-degree mark in at least 15 places, with the MeT office forecasting that the heat wave will intensify.
In Punjab and Haryana, maximum temperatures at most places continued to stay close to normal levels. Light rains or thundershowers are also likely at some parts in the next 24 hours.

The weather remained hot and dry in Uttar Pradesh and day temperatures rose appreciably in Gorakhpur and Faizabad. Hamirpur was the hottest place in the state, with mercury touching a high of 44.2 degrees Celsius.
The meteorological department has forecast dry weather over the state for the next two days. Rains or thundershowers are likely at isolated places on April 29.
Bihar saw similar conditions, with Bhagalpur the hottest at 41.2 degrees Celsius. Patna registered 40.4 degrees Celsius, the same as yesterday. The maximum temperature in the temple town of Gaya was 41.1 degrees Celsius.
Chhattisgarh also reeled under heat with day temperatures in most parts of the state shooting up to 40 degrees Celsius or more.
The highest temperature of 43.1 degrees Celsius was recorded in Bilaspur while capital Raipur saw 42 degrees Celsius. The Met department has forecast a rise in heat in the state.
A similar rise in heat has also been forecast for Telangana. The maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by 2 to 3 notches in parts of the state.
The highest maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius was recorded at Bhadrachalam, Khammam, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda.
There, however, may be some relief on the horizon for the state with the Met department forecasting light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places on April 29 and 30.
