Heat, humidity, power cuts affect life in North

The maximum in national capital touched 41.2 deg C, up by five notches and the minimum settled at 29.2, an increase of two degrees.

Humidity oscillated between 73 and 42 per cent.

The unabated heatwave claimed three lives in Punjab as the temperature in the state and neighbouring Haryana today soared up to eight notches above normal at a few places.

Three persons succumbed due to heat in different parts of the industrial town Batala.

Meanwhile, the day temperatures in most parts of Punjab and Haryana hovered between one to eight deg C above normal, the Met office said, adding that high humidity levels prevailed in the region.

Narnaul was hottest in Haryana with a high of 46.5 deg C, eight notches above normal. In Punjab, Amritsar continued to be hottest place with a high of 39.6 deg C, three notches above normal.

Unscheduled power cuts in most parts of Punjab and Haryana also added to the woes of the people.

Uttar Pradesh continued to suffer the heat and humid conditions with MET office predicting further advancement of south-west monsoon in some parts of state during the next three days.

Light to moderate pre monsoon rain/ thundershowers occurred at one or two places over East UP but weather was mainly dry over Western region.

Temperatures were above normal in Kanpur, Jhansi divisions, appreciably above normal in Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Agra divisions but elsewhere it was stated to be below normal but extremely humid.

Highest maximum temperature in the state was 43.9 deg C at Fatehgarh.

In Rajasthan, Sriganganagar was the hottest place with a maximum of 47.4 deg C.

Elsewhere, Bikaner recorded a high of 45.6 deg C, followed by Kota at 42.7 deg C, Jaisalmer 42.3 deg C and Jodhpur 42 deg C, MeT officials said.

The Weatherman forecast dust storm accompanied by light rains in isolated places in the state tomorrow.
