Heat intensifies in Odisha, sunstroke death rises to two

The searing heat in Odisha intensified today and claimed another life taking the toll to two.
The death was reported from Angul district, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said in a statement.
The first death was reported from Bargarh district in western Odisha on April 11.
Western Odisha districts sizzled in the heat as Titlagarh in Balangir district remained the hottest place at 43.6 degrees Celsius.
Balangir town and Talcher recorded 43.5 degrees Celsius followed by Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district at 43.2 degrees Celsius, the Met office here said.
The mercury breached the 40-degree mark in at least 11 places in the state.

The mercury was at 42.2 degrees Celsius at Malkangiri, 42 at Jharsuguda, 41.7 at Angul, 41.2 at Sonepur, 41 at Sambalpur and Hirakud and 40.4 at Phulbani.
The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar was 38.8 degree celsius, was 37.4 degrees Celsius in neighbouring Cuttack city, the Met office said.
Relief is, however, likely in some areas as the weatherman predicted rain or thundershower coupled with gusty surface wind in some places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul and Jajpur districts tomorrow under the impact of a depression over the Bay of Bengal.
