At least 13 places recorded a high of above 40 degrees Celsius, while four places in the western region recorded temperature above 45 degree Celsius, Met office sources said.
Both Titlagarh and Bolangir boiled at 46 degree Celsius, considered the highest this season.
They were followed by Hirakud (45.6) and Jharsuguda (45.5). Bhawanipatna, the district head quarters town of Kalahandi, recorded 44.7 degree Celsius, while industrial town of Angul sizzled at 43.7 degree Celsius followed by Talcher and Sambalpur at at 43.6 and 43.4 degree Celsius, respectively, the Met office said.
The mercury level increased to 40.5 degree Celsius at Bhubaneswar against yesterday's 36 degrees Celsius with humidity level at 95 per cent, the Met office said.

The maximum temperature in neighbouring Cuttack was 39 degrees Celsius.
