Hisar in Haryana was the hottest place of the two states recording a maximum of 42.4 degrees Celsius, six notches above normal, the MeT said here.
Bhiwani also sizzled at 42.2 deg C, up six degrees, while Rohtak sweltered at 41.5 deg C, up seven marks.
Ambala and Karnal recorded near similar highs of 37.5 deg C and 37 deg C, respectively.
In Punjab, Amritsar residents experienced a hot day at 41.5 deg C, six degrees above normal.
Patiala and Ludhiana, too, endured sultry weather conditions recording respective maximums of 38 deg C and 37.8 deg C, up by five and four degrees each.
High humidity levels prevailed in Chandigarh, which recorded a maximum of 35.3 deg C. A few areas in the City received light rains in the afternoon, but the showers lasted barely for a few minutes.

The MeT has forecast light to moderate rain or thunder showers at isolated places in both states over the next two days.
Meanwhile, the power situation which had eased in the two states after the arrival of monsoon nearly ten days back has again been affected following sudden spurt in demand and the authorities imposing cuts.
