Severe heat wave conditions in North coastal Andhra Pradesh reportedly claimed 32 lives in the three districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.
According to district officials, a total of 13 persons lost their lives in Srikakulam district alone. The officials confirmed that they died during the last two days due to the heat wave.
In Visakhapatnam district, 12 people reportedly lost their lives in the last two days. However, officials did not confirm the figure stating that they had no reports of heat wave deaths.
District Revenue Officer M Venkateswara Rao told PTI that they have not received any reports of heat wave deaths in the district and they were monitoring media reports.
However, he said that revenue officials including the revenue divisional officer have been asked to verify facts.
Meanwhile, the cyclone warning centre said that heat wave conditions would prevail in North coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next two days.
Visakhapatnam airport recorded 42 degrees celsius and the Visakhaptnam city touched 35.6 degrees celsius today, cyclone warning centre officials said.
Cyclone warning centre officials attributed the reasons to the severe heat wave conditions prevailing in the North coastal districts, since monsoon has not set in the Bay of Bengal so far. Day temperatures were increasing due to prevailing land winds from North West and West, they said.
