Palakkad, which has been bearing the brunt of the sizzling heat, recorded maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius.
Kozhikode recorded 38.4 degrees C, Kannur 37.4 degrees C, Punalur 36.5, Thiruvananthapuram 35.3, Kochi airport 35.7 and Kochi 34.6 degrees Celsius, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said.
In the wake of the heat wave warning by IMD, more districts have announced holiday for schools and other educational institutions.
Palakkad District Collector today ordered that schools and other educational institutions including professional colleges should remain shut till further directive.

Educational institutions would remain closed till May 5 in Kottayam and May 20 in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.
A bus of a private school was seized at Chirayinkeezhu near here today by District Collector Biju Prabhakar for opening the school and conducting classes by violating rules.
The power supply to the school was also disconnected, sources said.
