Heat wave gone; sunstroke death toll mounts to 20 in Odisha

Twenty persons have died so far due to sunstroke in Odisha while the mercury today dropped below 40 degrees Celsius across the state except Sonepur.
The temperature fell in all the places mostly due to cyclone Roanu induced rainfall, the Met office said, adding that the maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius was recorded at Sonepur in western region of the state.
Bhubaneswar recorded 32.4 degrees C with humidity level at 92 per cent. The city experienced 1.7 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours while Cuttack recorded 33 degrees C.
Gopalpur recorded highest rainfall at 14 mm followed by 5 mm at Malkangiri, 4 mm at Koraput and 2.5 mm at Puri.
The IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall upto 25 cm in next 24 hours due to the cyclone. The rainfall will continue for two days, they said.
Meanwhile, the sunstroke death toll reached 20 with a fresh case being confirmed at Jajpur district, a report from the special relief commissioner's office said.
The number of alleged heat-related death cases also increased to 192 from 191 yesterday.
Angul district confirmed highest six sunstroke deaths followed by four in Balasore, three each in Balangir and Jajpur, two in Dhenkanal and one each at Keonjhar and Sambalpur district.
