Heat wave kills 22 in AP

As many as 22 people have died in Andhra Pradesh amid heat wave conditions prevailing in north coastal region of the state, officials said today.
The heatwave claimed eight lives in East Godavari in the last three days where mercury has been soaring around 42 to 45 degree Celsius, District Collector H Arunkumar said.
As per the local MeT department, the temperatures were up at 42 deg Celsius at Kakinada district headquarters yesterday, 43 deg Celsius in Rajahmundry town and 44 deg Celsius in Tuni municipality on the district outskirts.
The deceased in various mandals of East Godavari district were identified as M Ravi (37), M Venkata Rao (75), K Bhagyavati (81), U Kamaswara Rao (75), S Mangayamma (80), M Venkata Rao (75), K Balasubharamanayam (59) and K Somaraju (74), officials said.
Besides, six people lost their lives due to sun stroke in Srikakulam, according to the district revenue office (DRO).
While five persons died in the last two days, one person succumbed to heat stroke today, DRO officials said.

The deceased were identified as P Appala Swamy(58), Mallelswara Rao(67), A Ramamurthy (66), B Buddi(40), Ammanamma (67) and C SaiKiran (12).
In Visakhapatnam, though the temperatures were below normal, the humidity was high.
Two persons - K Ramu (33) and B Bangaraiah (77) - lost their lives in in Padmanabha mandal while Shaik Madina (70), a street vendor, died due to sun stoke in Gopalapatnam in the city during the last two days, as per the DRO.
Also, five deaths were reported from Vizianagaram during the last 48 hours, as per the district's public relations office.
According to the MeT department, heat wave conditions will prevail for another 2-3 days in north coastal Andhra.
The temperatures were also reported above normal at various places in south coastal AP districts.
