Heatstroke claims 2 more lives in Ahmedabad

Two more persons died due to heatstroke in the city today as Gujarat continued to remain in the grip of extreme heat conditions with the maximum temperature soaring to nearly 45 degrees Celsius.
With this, four people have succumbed to heatstroke in the city in the last two days.
"Two persons died due to heatstroke in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run L G Hospital," Bhavik Joshi, in-charge Health Officer of the medical facility, said.
The deceased, Ramesh Rajubhai (64) and Puralal Natthuram (75), were taken to the hospital in Maninagar yesterday, he said.
Eight more persons suffering from heat-related illness are being treated in two civic hospitals, Joshi said.

AMC has issued a health advisory on heatstroke for the general public in the wake of high mercury levels.

According to the Meteorological Department, Rajkot city was the hottest in Gujarat today at 44.9 degrees Celsius followed by Surendranagar (44.7).
State capital Gandhinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees, while other cities of central Gujarat, including Vadodara (41.6) and Vallabh Vidyanagar (41.2), also bore the brunt of heatwave.
In Saurashtra region, the maximum temperature was in Amreli (43.8), while Bhavnagar sizzled at 42.7 degrees. In Kutch, Bhuj recorded 42.4 degrees, while North Gujarat's Deesa town registered 42.8 degrees.
The weather department said heatwave conditions would continue to prevail in entire Gujarat during the next two days.
