Heatwave claims three lives in Vadodara

The heatwave sweeping central Gujarat with mercury hovering around 42 degree Celsius, has claimed three lives in the city in the last 24 hours, police said today.
Some parts in north Gujarat even recorded maximum temperature of over 44 degree Celsius yesterday, according to the meteorological department.
The central Gujarat region has been witnessing arid conditions for last couple of days. Humidity level has plummeted below 50 per cent with hot winds blowing since early morning, a Met official said.
With the mercury rising, many people have been complaining of sun strokes and other heat-related diseases in the city, sources said.
Police said one Shakla Hathila, a tribal from Dohad district, fainted while digging land near Fatehgunj locality here yesterday and later died at a hospital.
One unidentified person, aged around 40 years, was found unconscious in Nagarwada locality of the city yesterday and was rushed to hospital where he died, they said.
Another unidentified person was found unconscious in a coach of a holiday special train which had arrived in Vadodara yesterday from Jammu. He was taken to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, police said.
"Heatwave conditions will continue for at least next two days in the region," a Met official said.
