The mercury level, however, came down to 43.7 degrees Celsius at Bhawanipatna, the district headquarters town of Kalahandi district today, from 45.5 degrees Celsius yesterday. It was followed by Sonepur at 43 degree C and 42.5 degree C at Titlagarh, the IMD said.
Other places in the western region which sizzled were Bolangir and Sundergarh (42 each), Jharsuguda (41.4), Hirakud (42.1), Sambalpur (40.4), Talcher (41.5) and Angul (41.7).
Bhubaneswar, however, recorded 40 degrees Celsius with humidity level stood at 90 per cent. The maximum temperature in neighbouring Cuttack was 38 degrees Celsius.
The death toll due to sunstroke remained unchanged at 20, according to Special Relief Commissioner's office.
