The highest temparature in the state was recorded at 42.2 degee celsisus at Titlagarh in Bolangir district.
"The heatwave condition will prevail for the next 48 hours though a favourable condition is gradually being formed," a senior scientst of local IMD office said.
Bhubaneswar, which recorded temperature at 42 degree C for the last three days, however, witnessed a slight change as the mercury level remanined static at 41.4 degree C today.
At least 14 towns in difefrent districts recorded temperatore above 40 degree celsius.
A 45-year-old man from Balianta area in Khurda district died of sunstroke. Deepak Kumar Rath, a farmer, allegedly fell down and died while returning from the agricultural field, family sources said.
The revenue and disaster management department, however, claimed it has not received any such information in regards to death of a person in the sunstroke.
