Heavy downpour continues in Nashik

Incessant rainfall continued to lash Nashik and other parts of the district on the third day, affecting the normal life.
The rains have however brought respite to farmers who were able to proceed with the sowing activity.
Considering good downpour in the catchment areas, the irrigation department has released 2,000 cusec of water for the first time in the season from Gangapur dam this morning, officials in the district collectorate said today.
The district administration has asked people living on the banks of river Godavari, especially villages Chandori, Saikheda, to remain vigilant.
Heavy rains impacted movement of traffic on city roads leading to snarls on internal roads and also on the national as well as highways.

Water logging was witnessed in low lying areas of the city, while there was disruption of power in many areas of the district, a personnel at district rural police control room said.

Nashik district recorded 535.2 mm rainfall between 8 am yesterday till 8 am this morning, according to the figures issued by the collectorate.
Gangapur dam, which is the main source of drinking water for Nashik city, is currently filled up to 75 per cent of its total capacity of 5,630 million cubic feet, while Darna dam up to 78 per cent.
Police have issued an advisory to citizens, especially the youngsters not to visit Someshwar waterfall here and other picnic spots owing to heavy rains.
