Heavy downpour lash Delhi, cause traffic snarls

Heavy downpour lashed the national capital today causing traffic jams as vehicles had to wade through flooded streets in various parts of the city.
The day began on a sultry note but by late afternoon, heavy downpours drenched most parts of the city.
While the rain received stood at 28.6 mm, the Northern Ridge area received a maximum precipitation of 70 mm, Met officials said.
While Safdarjung area saw rains at around 05:30 pm, many other parts of the city received it by 03:30 pm only and lasted till about 07:30 pm, officials said.
The humidity level remained between 65 per cent and 83 per cent.
The day temperatures settled at 36 degrees Celsius, two points above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 28.8 deg C, which is also two notches above normal, they said.

Traffic snarls were noticed at several places, including Kashmere Gate, Munirka, Dwarka, Dhaula Kuan, Sarai Kale Khan, Rajghat, Kalindi Kunj, Barapulla and Moolchand.
The weatherman has predicted generally cloudy sky with rain and thundershowers in some areas tomorrow, while the maximum and minimum temperatures would remain at 36 deg C and 28 deg C respectively.
Though today saw a huge downpour, tomorrow it is forecast to remain lighter, they added.
