A cautionary statement issued by the Ministry of Earth Sciences today said, "Areas where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to occur are west Madhya Pradesh, east and west Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch region. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to occur in Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal thereafter on Tuesday and Wednesday."
A low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan has been responsible for the good spell of rains over parts of central India, while another low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal resulted in good rainfall over east India, it said.
The low pressure area over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal has further intensified into a depression. It is further expected to intensify into deep-depression.
"The weather system has already been giving good rainfall over the Gangetic West Bengal and coastal Odisha.
"And with this system gaining more strength, heavy to very heavy monsoon showers are expected to lash parts of Gangetic West Bengal, adjoining Mizoram and Tripura and southern parts of Bangladesh. While, moderate showers will be recorded over parts of north coastal Odisha," said Skymet, a private weather forecasting agency.
