Heavy rains continue to lash Himachal Pradesh

A woman and her niece were buried alive while another woman was injured when a house collapsed at Chakra Khud in Kangra and over a dozen houses were damage due to heavy rains in Nagrota Surian.

Rains blocked several link roads in Kangra, Jogindernagar and Baijnath and the rail services on Jogindernagar-Pathankot route could not be restored even on seventh day.

A bridge was washed away in Nalagarh area and houses were damaged in rains in Sidhpur village in Dharampur area of Mandi district while a portion of historic Ridge maidan developed cracks following intermittent heavy rains.

Paonta Sahib was wettest in the state with 108 mm of rains while Jogindernagar had 70 mm of rains. Kufri and Renuka each had 38 mm showers while received Chelise 35 mm rains.

Mehre and Gaggal had 33 mm showers while Shimla received 31 mm rains, the Met said today.

The maximum day temperatures dropped by two to three degrees and Una was hottest in the state with a high of 31 degree Celsius, a drop of 2.6 degrees, followed by Sundernagar and Dharamsala 27.5 degree Celsius.

Bhuntar recorded 26 degree Celsius, while Nahan had a high of 24.2 degree Celsius and Solan recorded 22 degree Celsius temperature. Shimla and Kalpa both recorded maximum temperature of 19 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperatures also dropped by two degrees and Manali and Shimla were coldest in non-tribal areas with a low of 15.7 degree Celsius.

Kalpa and Keylong in tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti recorded a low of 12.4 degree Celsius and 14.5 degree Celsius respectively.

The local MeT office has predicted widespread rains in the region during next 24 hours and very heavy rains at isolated places in mid and lower hills.
