Heavy rains in Delhi; bridge washes away by floodwaters in HP

Heavy rains lashed the national capital, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh where a 44-year-old bridge was washed away by raging floodwaters even as the toll in floods in the state rose to 25 with the death of a school girl.
Heavy to very heavy rains are likely over isolated areas in east Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh and north Chhattisgarh. Heavy rain at isolated places is likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan.
Heavy rains continued to lash parts of national capital keeping the mercury level below normal at 33 degrees Celsius and 26.2 degrees but humidity extremely high.
Safdarjung observatory, reading of which is considered the official figure for Delhi, recorded 29.6 mm rainfall while the reading at Palam observatory was 0.8 mm.
In Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district, heavy rains claimed one more life taking the toll to 25. Eight pillars of Kandrori bridge, which was built in 1972 and connected Nurpur area in Shimla district with Punjab was washed away.
A school girl was yesterday swept away in a flooded nallah in Shimla, taking the death toll to 25. Heavy rains hit Kangra, Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts, inundating the low-lying areas and disrupting water and power supply. The districts witnessed 42 to 217 mm of rains.
The weather looked up in south Bengal as the depression which lay centered at about 280 km from Balasore in Odisha yesterday saw movement towards Jharkhand and Bihar.

Burdwan recorded the highest rainfall of 49.1 mm in the state in 24 hours from 8.30 AM yesterday, while Asansol recorded 14.4 mm rain and Bankura 9.3 mm.
Kolkata, which recorded the day's highest temperature at 33.6 degree Celsius, received only 2.7 mm rainfall.
In Bihar, heavy showers lashed Jamui and adjoining districts even as there was light to moderate rainfall elsewhere in the state in the last 24 hours.
Sono region in Jamui district received the highest rainfall at seven cm, followed by six cm each in Bhabhua and Kudra, while Sherghati region in Gaya witnessed five cm rains.
Light to heavy rains has lashed part of Rajasthan where Gangrar in Chittorgarh recorded maximum of 11 cm of rain followed by Bansur in Alwar which witnessed 9 cm. Heavy rainfall warning has been issued for isolated areas in the state during the next 24 hours.
In Uttar Pradesh, light to moderate rain or thunder showers occurred at a few places in the eastern part of the state.
Rain lashed most parts of Punjab and Haryana lowering the maximum temperature by upto three notches below normal in the region. Amritsar received 11.2 mm of rainfall, Karnal 9.2 mm and Chandigarh received 4.1 mm of rainfall.
