Heavy rains lash many parts of Gujarat

After a month-long delay in arrival of monsoon, heavy rains lashed many parts of Gujarat since last evening.
Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority said the state received average 55 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours.
Many places in the central and south Gujarat along with Saurashtra are having continuous showers since last evening.
Ahmedabad city too was having continuous showers since last evening. The city received 135 mm rainfall, said a statement from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
As per the GSDMA, Kheda (113 mm), Anand (108 mm), Vadodara (90 mm), Chhota Udepur(101 mm) and Panchmahal (102mm) of east-central Gujarat received heavy to very rainfall.
In south Gujarat, Tapi (102 mm), Surat (109mm) and Navsari (96mm) witnessed heavy showers.
"Heavy to very heavy rains would occur at isolated places over Gujarat region, Saurashtra and in Diu, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli," the forecast of Ahmedabad Meteorological Centre of Indian Meteorological Department said.
Water-logging was reported in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Surat and Vadodara. Authorities issued alert in Rajkot district as water-level in the low-lying areas along Aji river was rising.
