Heavy rains have been lashing Odisha since last night under the impact of two low pressure areas over south-east Rajasthan and its neighbourhood area and another over Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining north eastern part of the Arabian Sea.
Stating that yesterday's low pressure area over south- east Rajasthan and neighbourhood now lies over western part of Rajasthan and its neighbourhood, an IMD bulletin said that another low pressure over Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining north eastern part of the Arabian Sea was also now spotted over Kutch and its neighbourhood.
"Moreover, a cyclonic circulation over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and Neighbourhood persists today and extended upto mid-tropospheric level and under its influence, a low pressure area may form over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood during the next 24 hours," IMD Director Sarat Sahu, Bhubaneswar, said.
Under its impact, Sahu said rain and thunder shower would occur in most places in Odisha during the next 24 hours.
"Extremely heavy rainfall would occur at one or two places over districts of North Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places over districts of South Odisha during the next 24 hours," the bulletin said adding that surface wind with speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph might prevail along and off Odisha coast.
The weatherman also warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea in view of the low pressures.
