Heavy rains lash Punjab, Haryana

Heavy rains lashed Punjab and parts of Haryana overnight, bringing relief to people from the hot and sultry weather conditions.
Chandigarh was lashed by heavy showers at 53.3 mm, a MeT department official said here.
Heavy showers lashed most of Punjab, and parts of Haryana.
Amritsar was lashed by heavy rain at 48.3 mm, Ludhiana 31 mm, Patiala 8.2 mm, Amloh 23 mm, Sirhind 29 mm, Adampur 20 mm, Samrala 46 mm, Rajpura 39.6 mm, Balachaur 32.2 mm, Anandpur Sahib 25 mm, Ropar 30 mm, Derabassi 83 mm, while Tarn Taran received 32 mm of rain.
In Haryana, Jagadhri was lashed by heavy showers at 175 mm, Ambala got 36.9 mm while Panchkula received 47 mm of rain.
The mercury dropped by a few notches at many places after the showers. The Met department here has forecast more rains in the two states over the next few days.
Hot and sultry weather conditions had prevailed in most of Punjab and Haryana yesterday. Hisar in Haryana was hottest at 39.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above the normal.
