The PBD will commence on January 7 with a session to exclusively discuss the problems and issues being faced by Non-Resident Indians in the Gulf, Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi and Kerala Chief Minsiter Oommen Chandy told reporters here.
This is the first time such a session for NRIs in the Gulf is being organised at the PBD the focus of which will be 'Engaging Diaspora: The Indian Growth Story'.
President Pranab Mukherjee will deliver the valedictory address on January 9 and give away the Pravasi samman awards, Ravi said.
The organisers are expecting over 2000 delegates.
With Kerala hosting the event for the first time, there has been a great demand for registrations which have already crossed over 1,000, Chandy said.
Detailed discussions were held with MLAs, Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany, officials from various quarters for the smooth conduct of the event which will see a host of VIPs coming to the state. Top police personnel including IGP Ernakulam and Kochi Police Commissioner were also present.

Chief Ministers from eight states, including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Assam, Goa and Deputy Chief minister of Punjab have confirmed their participation, Chandy said.
Besides, delegates from 44 countries have already registered. 'We hope delegates from more countries will register in the coming days, Ravi said.
The three-day conference will see a series of seminars on varying subjects ranging from tourism, pure sciences, skill development, India's growth, greater opportunties, engaging young overseas Indians, investment opportunities in states, innovation and technology and India's growing soft power.
