Expressing concern that the existing forest cover in the state was affected due to jhum cultivation, he appealed to the department officials to work out policies and guidelines to protect the green areas and bring change to turn the state into green field.
"Rules and regulations of the department are framed only with the objective of delivering goods to the people, and as public servants there should not be any compromise in delivering quality service," the Minister said in his maiden interaction with the department staff and officers in the office of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) here.
Further, the Minister also appealed to the departmental officials to sincerely implement the externally aided Rs 533 crore funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) covering 79,000 hectares of land in 185 villages throughout the state.
The project which will commence soon aims at improving the forest eco-system and promote rural income generation through rehabilitation of jhum areas, while providing livelihood support in the project areas, Imchen added.
