BJP's Mathura MP Hema Malini today called on Union Culture and Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma here and discussed execution of various projects in her constituency, including setting up of a memorial to Jana Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyaya.
The Central government has already announced its plan to set up a memorial in the name of Upadhyaya to propagate his ideology and philosophy.
It will be established at the party ideologue's birthplace at Farah in Mathura.
"The two leaders during the meeting discussed several issues, including the proposal to set up the memorial," a source said.
They also dwelt upon various tourism projects such as developing of a Krishna Circuit in the holy town in a bid to attract international tourists to the 'land of Krishna', the source said.
The government has allocated Rs 100 crore in this year's budget for celebrating the birth centenary of Upadhyaya on a big scale.
Born on September 25, 1916, Upadhyaya was one of the foremost leaders of Jana Sangh. A full-timer in RSS, he moved to Lakhimpur district in Uttar Pradesh as an organiser and, in 1955, became the Provincial Organiser of the outfit. He became Jana Sangh president in 1968.
