However, HI sources stated that John will be the stand-in manager during the Olympics as that would give him a chance to sit in the dig-out as per wished of chief coach Michael Nobbs.
"There was an emergent meeting of HI's executive committee to discuss the issue of the objections raised by the Services, Air India, Jharkhand and Rajasthan regarding how a foreigner like John has been appointed manager of the hockey team. However, it was clarified today that it was a typo error and John was not the manager but the stand-in manager. We have clarified all the units that our manager is Clarence Lobo," a source in the know of things told PTI today.
A decision also taken that during the preparatory tours of Spain and France, former India captain Dilip Tirkey will be the stand-in manager.
