High altitude areas in HP receive mild snowfall
Press Trust of India Shimla The high-altitude tribal areas of Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts in Himachal Pradesh today received mild snowfall, while Palampur witnessed moderate rainfall, causing a fall in minimum temperatures.
The weather remained mostly dry in rest of the state despite partially overcast sky. However, minimum temperatures dropped by two to three notches.
Keylong and Kalpa in tribal areas recorded minimum temperatures of 10.4 degrees Celsius and 11.4 degrees Celsius respectively, while Manali and Shimla registered a low of 12.0 degrees Celsius and 14.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Palampur 16.0 degrees Celsius; Solan 17.5 degrees Celsius and Dharamsala 18.5 degrees Celsius.
Una was hottest in the region with maximum temperatures settling at 34.6 degrees Celsius, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded a high of 31.7 degrees Celsius and 31.5 degrees Celsius respectively, followed by Solan 29.0 degrees Celsius; Nahan 27.9 degrees Celsius; Manali 24.2 degrees Celsius; Shimla 23.5 degrees Celsius; and Kalpa 23.0 degrees Celsius.
Palampur in Kangra district recorded 14 mm of rain, while Kalpa, Kasol and Manikaran recorded 1 mm of rainfall each.
The monsoon rain deficit increased to 19 per cent as the state recorded 587.9 mm average rainfall from June 1 to September 3 against normal rainfall of 722.1 mm.
The MeT has predicted rains or thundershowers at isolated places in lower and mid-hilly areas over the next six days.
