High Court breather to BJD MLA extended by a day
Press Trust of India Cuttack (Odisha) The Orissa High Court today adjourned the hearing of anticipatory bail application of BJD legislator Pravat Tripathy to Tuesday and accordingly extended the interim relief it had granted to the Banki MLA for another day.
The High Court on September 30 had given protection to Tripathy by asking the CBI to refrain from arresting him till October 13. As the court reopened on the day after the puja vacations, the hearing was further adjourned.
The senior BJD leader had approached the High Court seeking advance bail after his houses were searched and he was questioned by the CBI sleuths in connection with Tripathy's alleged link with chit fund company Arthatatwa Group's CMD Pradeep Sethy, who is also in CBI custody.
Tripathy had allegedly asked Sethy to provide funds for a cultural festival in his constituency. An audio CD containing the purported telephonic conversation between Tripathy and Sethy was with the CBI and the same had been sent to Hyderabad-based Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for verification of its authenticity.
The CBI is currently investigating into the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha following the Supreme Court's direction.
