The Madras High Court today ordered issue of a notice to Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Central Board of Film Certification, Chennai, on a petition filed by a Hindu organisation seeking a direction to revoke the censor certificate to Tamil movie 'Sorgam Yen Kaiyel', a film dubbed from Kannada.
The petitioner 'Hindu Dharma Sakthi', represented by its Secretary N.Devasenathypathy, alleged that the movie portrays Hindu sanyasis as indulging in deceitful and immoral activities and hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.
The film was produced by one Madan Patel of Media International Films of Bangalore.
The petitioner further submitted that the Censor Board in Karnataka had through its order dated July 30, 2012 held that the movie was not fit to be released for public viewing.
Hence, the producer was now trying to release the Tamil dubbing of the film in Tamil Nadu, the petitioner contended.
The petitioner further submitted that under section 5B(1) of the Cinematograph act 1952, a film shall not be certified for public exhibition by the competent authority, if the film, or any part of it, is against public order, decency or morality.
Hence he sought a direction to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Central Board of Film Certification, Chennai to revoke the censor certificate for public exhibition issued to the film.
Justice B Rajendran ordered issue of notice to the authorities concerned returnable by two weeks.
