High humidity in Bihar, monsoon may arrive between June 17-18

High humidity and soaring temperature have added to the discomfort of the people in Bihar and it is expected to continue till June 5 when pre-monsoon showers are likely to arrive in the state.
Monsoon is expected to hit Bihar between June 17-18 and pre-monsoon shower is not expected till June 5, the MeT department here said.
"There will be no rains till June 5 but after that good pre-monsoon showers in the southeast and northern parts of the state are expected from June 6-7," Patna MeT director Ashish Sen said.
"Southwest monsoon is expected to hit Kerala by June 7 and it reaches Bihar normally after 10-11 days. This means that monsoon is likely to hit the state between June 17-18," he said.
To a query on how much rainfall Bihar is expected to receive during this monsoon, he said against the MeT department's prediction of 106 per cent rainfall across the country, Bihar is likely to have 8 to 10 per cent deficit rainfall.
On an average, Bihar gets 1,027 mm rainfall in four months beginning June every year.
Asked why there is so much humidity, Sen said high humidity is normal when monsoon is around. It has been witnessed that humidity increases 10 to 12 days before the onset of monsoon.
Temperature is hovering between 37-39 degrees Celsius at many areas, while Gaya and some places are experiencing temperature above 40 degrees Celsius, the MeT office said.
