Delhi government today approved a long-pending proposal to remove all high-tension electric lines criss crossing various unauthorised colonies across the city considering safety issues.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
"We have decided to remove al overhead high tension electric lines passing across various residential areas, particularly unauthorized colonies, as they pose a serious threat to human life," Dikshit said.
The funds for shifting the lines are being released under a scheme which was launched to provide basic amenities like roads and drains, water supply network and sewerage in unauthorised colonies.
The shifting of the high tension lines from unauthorized colonies was not covered under the scheme titled 'Provision of Essential Services in Unauthorized Colonies' earlier.
A number of mishaps had taken place as unauthorised structures have come up beneath major power transmission lines.
