The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) today said the hike in toll on a stretch of Gurgaon-Jaipur Highway has been withdrawn by the developer as the project is incomplete.
The decision was taken by the developer after the NHAI asked the developer to complete the project and roll back the hike till then, an NHAI official said.
"NHAI is developing six laning of Gurgaon-Kotputli-Jaipur section of NH-8 from 42 km to 273 km under PPP mode on BOT (toll) pattern with a concession period of 12 years starting from April 3, 2009. Although 90 per cent of the work is completed, yet owing to various constraints, the project completion has been delayed and some structures remain to be constructed," NHAI said in a note.
It said the toll on the road is being collected as per norms at the time of the agreement with the developer, which mentions the clause of annual revision from September 1.
"However, on the basis of review at NHAI HQ of the progress of work, the concessionaire has agreed to defer the hike in toll rates with immediate effect. NHAI is prevailing upon the concessionaire to complete main carriageway and other works expeditiously," it said.
Earlier, the government has said the much-delayed Delhi-Jaipur Expressway would be completed by June.
The Delhi-Jaipur highway project has been delayed due to various reasons, including land acquisition and contractual issues. The project cost of the 272-km highway is also likely to shoot up from Rs 11,750 crore, sources said.
The vital road caters to six Assembly constituencies.
