"We saw an opportunity to not only enter the lifestyle space by developing a new brand but also to redefine this category by creating a more accessible lifestyle brand," Hilton Worldwide President and CEO Christopher J Nassetta said in a release issued here.
Canopy by Hilton will develop through new-build and conversion projects in key urban neighbourhoods and vibrant secondary markets around the world with properties expected to begin opening in 2015.
The hospitality major has signed 11 signed letters of intent to open Canopy by Hilton so far.
Presently, Hilton Worldwide operates 13 hotels and resorts in India under four brands - the two upscale brands (Hilton Hotels & Resorts and DoubleTree by Hilton) and two mid-market brands (Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton by Hilton).
The company's portfolio of 12 global brands comprises more than 4,200 managed, franchised, owned and leased hotels and timeshare properties.
