Himachal CM expresses concern over shrinking tea gardens

Expressing his concern over the shrinking tea gardens in Palampur in Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said that such plantations need to be rejuvenated and must not be used for any other purpose.
Singh, who is on his winter sojourn trip, was addressing a public meeting at Baijnath.
He also assured that appropriate action would be taken to address the demands of the people engaged in tea gardening.
"As the Kangra tea had its own significance, the state government would take suitable steps along with the Tea Board of India to make it viable," added Singh.
The 82-year-old Himachal CM said, "when I became Member of Parliament for the 1st time in 1962, Baijnathwas a part of my constituency and I had an opportunity to visit every village of this segment and was aware of aspirations and ambitions of the people and its developmental needs.
Besides this, the CM also inaugurated various projects and announced upgrading of some schools in the area.
He announced construction of retaining wall for protection of the historical temple of Lord Shiva in Baijnath.
