Himachal gets unseasonal snowfall, Rohtang Pass closed

Lahaul and Spiti districts received snowfall during the month of September after 21 years, while Rohtang Pass(13,050 ft), sprawling Dhauladhar ranges in Kangra, Sarchu, Kunzam, Baralacha and Chansel passes also got snowfall.

The snowfall created cold wave conditions in adjoining higher hills and Rohtang Pass had been closed due to snow. The minimum temperature dipped to 10 deg in Manali due to intermittent heavy rains in the region.

The tribal areas of Keylong and Kalpa recorded a low of 9.4 deg C and 11 deg C, but the night temperature was likely to fall sharply, MeT office said.

Hamirpur which had heaviest rainfall of the season, recorded 164 mm of rains while Nadaun and Mehre in the same district had 144 mm and 139 mm rains, followed by Dharamsala 135 mm, Una 126 mm, Sujanpur Tira 111 mm, Kheri 106 mm, Dharampur and Palampur 94 mm.

The state capital Shimla, which was lashed by intermittent heavy rains throughout the day, recorded 45 mm of rains till this evening.

Most parts of Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts had intermittent heavy rains triggering landslides at numerous places and causing road blockade and uprooting of trees.

The maximum temperatures further dropped by two to three notches with Dharamsala hottest in the region during the day with a high of 26.8 deg, followed by Una 26 deg, a drop of four degree, Nahan 23.8 deg, Solan 23 deg and Kalpa 21.9 deg C.
