While the temperature at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district dipped to minus 9.5 degree Celcius, the other high-altitude tribal areas saw the temperature falling up to minus 18 degree Celsius and the mercury at most parts of the state including its capital hovered around freezing point.
While Shimla recorded minimum temperature at 1.7 degree Manali, Kalpa and Solan recorded a low of minus 3.0 degree minus 2.6 degree and minus 1.5 degree Celsius respectively, two degree below normal.
Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded a low of 1.0 degree and 1.6 degree Celsius while Nahan recorded minimum temperature at 4.0 degree, five degree below normal.
The warmest place in the state was Sundernagar during the day with maximum temperature at 20.9 degree, while Bhunter, Una and Solan recorded a high of 19.0 degree, followed by Dharamshala 18.8 degree, Nahan 17.0 degree, Shimla 13.4 degree and Kalpa 10.0 degree respectively.
A large number of tourists who have thronged Shimla and other key tourist resorts of Himachal Pradesh to ring in the new year appeared disappointed as a snow-covered
