The Himachal Road Transport Corporation today resumed its inter-state bus services to Delhi, Chandigarh and Dehradun, which remained suspended since August 24 in view of the Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh case.
Himachal Pradesh Transport Minister G S Bali said in Dharamsala, "Initially, half of the buses will resume services tonight. If the situation remains normal, the rest of the services will be resumed tomorrow."
He said that Himachal Pradesh was the first state in north India to resume its inter-state bus services after the conviction of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief in a rape case yesterday.
The conviction by a CBI court in Panchkula in Haryana triggered widespread violence, killing 32 people and injuring over 250 others.
The state transport corporation suspended services on over 200 routes as precautionary measures.
The violence that erupted in Punjab and Haryana affected supply of milk, bread, vegetables and other items to Himachal Pradesh.
Weekend flow of tourists was also badly hit.
