Himachal spending Rs 3,836 cr on education this fiscal: CM

Himachal Pradesh government is spending Rs 3,836 crore on education during the current financial year, which is 17 per cent of the state budget, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said.
Presiding over the annual function of a government girls' school in Portmore, Singh said that due to initiatives of the government, best infrastructure and quality education is being provided to children at their door steps.
As a result, the literacy percentage in the state has touched 83.78 per cent while the enrolment level is one of the highest in the country.
In order to ensure cent per cent enrolment in schools, the government is committed to open more educational institutions to facilitate the school children, Singh said.
The Chief Minister said the state government is providing free travel facility to the students studying in government schools, and special emphasis is being laid on improving the quality of education by modifying the curriculum, providing trained teachers and formulating policy for in-service training of teachers.
In order to encourage meritorious students, the government has announced a cash incentive of Rs 75,000 to the students who gets admission in IITs, IIMs or AIIMS, Singh said.
