Citing the example of Rabindranath Tagore's 'Geetanjali', which won him the Nobel prize for literature, Paul said if the great poet had not translated it into English the world outside this country would not have been able to relish his poetry.
"Hindi literature can achieve a global identity only if our great literary works are translated into English to reach a larger audience," Paul said while addressing the inaugural session of an art and culture festival titled 'Valley of Words'.
Paul also called for lowering the prices of literature books and increasing their availability to inculcate the habit of reading among children.
