: A group of Hindu Munnani volunteers today laid a near-seige to the district Collectorate here, demanding relaxation of conditions for conduct of Vinayaka Chathurthi festival next month.
The volunteers gathered at the Collectorate and insisted on meeting the district Collector to put forth their demands.
However, later officials allowed representatives of Hindu Munnani to meet Collector Shilpa Prabakar Satheesh.
Munnani state vice-president V P Jeyakumar and general secretary Arasuraja among others met the Collector and submitted a petition containing various demands with regard to conduct of Vinayaka Chathurthi celebrations in the town.
In the petition, they alleged the police amd revenue officials in the district had imposed 'unnecessary' restrictions to obtain permission for organising events in connection with the festival and wanted them to be relaxed.
