Hindus, Buddhists worship God of rain in Nepal

Hindus and Buddhists in Nepal today began a eight day festival to please the God of rain, Indra, to pray for good harvest.
Indra Jatra, the biggest festival of Kathmandu Valley dedicated to god of rain Indra, formally began with the erection of a sacred wooden pole at Hanumandhoka in Basantapur Darbar Square.
During the festival, people will indulge in singing, mask dancing and other rituals.
Legends said that the Indra Jatra festival is observed to celebrate the victory of the gods over the demons to release Jayanta, the son of Lord Indra, Himalayan Times reported.
