Hindustan Times, The Week The named for IPI-India award 2014

Leading daily Hindustan Times and weekly magazine The Week been have been selected for the prestigious IPI-India Award for Excellence in Journalism 2014 for outstanding journalistic work.
Hindustan Times has been chosen for the award for a series of stories it had done last year on acid attacks on women as well as sufferings of the victims and how some of them carried on with the fight.
The series culminated in a campaign called 'Stop Acid Attacks', to enlist the support of the society for the cause. The Jury noted that the investigation "was not only timely but it generated lot of public attention about acid attacks".

The Week was selected for the investigative feature it published on the plight of widows of Dardpora in Kashmir, who had lost their husbands in the ongoing strife in the Valley.
The Jury for the award was headed by Justice A S Anand, former Chief Justice of India and its members are N Ravi, Chairman, IPI-India and Director, The Hindu, M K Razdan, Editor-in-Chief, Press Trust of India and Riyad Mathew, Senior Assistant Editor, Malayala Manorama.
The award, which comprises a cash prize of Rs one lakh, a trophy and a citation, to each of the winners, will be presented at a function in New Delhi in December.

IPI-India had instituted the annual award in 2003 to recognise and honour the best work done by an Indian media organisation or journalist working in print, radio, television and internet mediums, in furtherance of public interest, including safeguarding of freedom of the press and other freedom such as Human Rights.
The Indian Chapter of the IPI (International Press Institute) is an active forum of Editors, Publishers and Senior Executives of newspapers, magazines and news agencies, all of whom are members of the International Press Institute.
Founded 59 years ago in New York by a group of editors from 15 countries, Vienna-based IPI has grown into a global organisation committed to the furtherance of the freedom of press.
