Hisar records 2nd highest in decade as Pb, Hry sizzle

Hisar in Haryana today recorded June month's second highest maximum temperature in a decade as Punjab and Haryana continued to reel under sweltering heat wave conditions.
Mercury today hovered above 45 degree Celsius mark at most places in both the states, where maximum temperatures remained several notches above normal with Hisar being the hottest place at 47.1 degree Celsius.
Today's maximum at Hisar was the second highest maximum recorded in month of June in last ten years. The district had recorded 47.8 deg C in June 2010, which was the highest maximum there in the last ten years. However, the all time high at Hisar in June was 48.4 deg C, recorded in 1981.
The Mercury at other places in Haryana, Ambala, Bhiwani and Karnal touched 43.9 deg C, 44.6 deg C and 45.2 deg C mark, rising by up to five degrees above normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded maximum at 47 deg C, which was June's third highest maximum in the decade. Amritsar, in June, had earlier recorded 47.8 deg C in 2007 and 47.6 deg C in 2012.
In Ludhiana, the temperature soared to 46.4 deg C which was also second highest temperature in the month of June there in the past ten years. Ludhiana had posted highest maximum at 46.6 deg C in June in year 2007.
Patiala had a high of 45.1 deg C, up by four notches above normal.
Union Territory of Chandigarh today had a high of 44 deg C, up by five degrees above normal. Yesterday, the city had registered maximum at 45 deg C.
MeT department in its forecast said weather will remain dry and severe heat wave conditions would prevail in many parts of Punjab and Haryana.
